Wadi Hanifah, An Oasis in the middle of the desert

Wadi Hanifah Riyadh Saudi Arabia Thoughts & Notes

Wadi Hanifah runs from the north to the south. In the prehistoric times, rain fell very heavily in the region, it was covered by oases. Nowadays, the area is dry except during rain season leading to floods. Almost 30 years ago, there was an environmental project which had for goal to create dams and regulate water flow. This resulted to a nice outdoor area for Riyadh inhabitants. A sewage treatment station has been created allowing a permanent flow and lakes on the south.

Of course, along the water, you  can find many green. It is a great escape from the busy city and traffic, a real oasis in the middle of the desert.

There are many places where you can enjoy the view or a barbecue – Location or a nice walk at AlElab dam – Location

You can also drive along Wadi Hanifah from North to the south and enjoy the greenery, you will forget for a while that you are in the middle of the desert.

Here are some pictures from the Development authority of Riyadh.
